Solutions for Quoin Blocks - March 2014

Focus Area

I was invited to a regional meeting to talk about how we use our compounds to rebuild damage to the quoin block and the mitre gate. These areas are notorious for erosion and then when the lock gates shut, there is water pouring in – which is exactly what we don’t want to happen.

For a few decades now we’ve been involved in rebuilding these damaged areas using Belzona 1311 (Ceramic R-Metal). We use a casting method and because of the 100% solids properties of our materials there is no shrinkage and no degradation of the material over time. I’ve heard that some districts are using a competitive product and are fixing these quoin blocks every few years even though the ones done with Belzona have been in service for decades with no required touch up.

The video I’ve attached is old but the solution works. If you would like us to help you with this type of repair on your outages this summer, please let us know. It’s our mission to help you repair, protect and improve your component equipment. Locks and Dams are an area where we excel!

Thank you for your continued support, we appreciate you.
